Trusted Leadership for Fremont's Future

Fremont Mayor Joey Spellerberg is in his first term as Mayor of Fremont.  Having never run for public office before, Joey led an aggressive grassroots campaign focusing on Growing Fremont Together.   His decisive victory in November of 2020 at the age of 30, made him one of the youngest Mayors in Nebraska history of a city of Fremont’s size.

Born and raised in Fremont, NE, Joey attended Trinity Lutheran School and Graduated from Archbishop Bergan High School.  While at Bergan, he was named the Fremont Tribune Area Athlete of the year. He received his bachelor’s degree from the University of Alabama Birmingham (UAB) graduating as the top marketing and sales student in the business school.  Wanting to return to Fremont and make a difference, Joey and his wife Ashley decided to return to his hometown to run the family business and raise their family.

As a small business owner, Joey has grown family-owned and operated Moostash Joe Tours to one of the region's premier tour operators, adding many new jobs to the Fremont community.  In 2019, out of over 300 operators, Moostash Joe Tours received a national award presented to the nation’s most innovative tour operator.   His strong leadership and commitment to each traveler has allowed this 40+ year company to double its annual passenger count in less than five years.

He is a Rotarian and past board member of the Fremont Area Chamber of Commerce.  He is also chairman of the annual Fremont Area Leadership Prayer Breakfast – one of the largest attended and impactful community events.

As Mayor, Joey has brought his Midwest work ethic and has hit the ground running.  Focusing on service and integrity, Joey’s priorities include growth and development, affordable housing, public safety, and fiscal responsibility.  He currently serves as a board member of the League Association of Risk Management and was recently one of a group of Mayors nationally honored by the U.S. Global Leadership Coalition for advocating for strengthening American global leadership to support our communities here at home.

Joey and his wife Ashley have three daughters – Sarah (7) Hannah (5) and Ava (2).
