PROTECTING YOUR TAX DOLLARS.
STRENGTHENING NEBRASKA’S FUTURE.

MEET JOEY SPELLERBERG

As Treasurer, Joey Spellerberg is working hard to bring strong fiscal conservative policies and leadership to the office. He is focused on improving financial literacy across the state, returning unclaimed property, and growing Nebraska into the best place to live, work, and raise a family.

Prior to serving as Nebraska’s 47th State Treasurer, Spellerberg served as the Mayor of Fremont from 2020-2025. After running and winning an aggressive grassroots campaign, Spellerberg became one of the youngest mayors in Nebraska history to lead a city of Fremont’s size.

Fiscal responsibility isn’t complicated. Spend wisely, cut waste, and put Nebraska families first.”

-Joey Spellerberg

As Mayor, Joey focused on growing Fremont, fiscal responsibility, and public safety. One of his biggest accomplishments as Mayor came after he led efforts to reduce the city’s property tax levy by over 25%, which moved Fremont to one of the lowest levy rates in Nebraska. Fremont also saw record growth in housing, businesses, and downtown development during his time as Mayor.

Joey Spellerberg was born and raised in Fremont, Nebraska. He completed his bachelor’s degree in marketing from the University of Alabama at Birmingham, graduating as the top sales and marketing student in the business school. Spellerberg returned to Fremont after graduation to run the family business, Moostash Joe Tours, growing it into one of the region's premier tour operators.

Joey is a Rotarian, a graduate of Leadership Fremont, and a past board member of the Fremont Area Chamber of Commerce. He also served as the chairman of the annual Fremont Area Leadership Prayer Breakfast – one of the largest attended and impactful community events.

Joey and his wife, Ashley, are raising their four children, Sarah, Hannah, Ava, and Joseph, in Fremont.
